The Thursday before Thanksgiving I participated in my third annual Sleep Out for the Covenant House of New Orleans.
The Covenant House of New Orleans helps homeless youth get housing and hand up in their life. To help support the Covenant House over 200 members of the New Orleans community raise money and sleep on Rampart Street around the Covenant House in support of homeless youth. This year the sleepers collectively raised over $620,000 !
The Covenant House of New Orleans helps hundreds of homeless youth a year. They not only provide housing but also help the residents get jobs, medical care, start savings accounts, and find childcare. They have a human trafficking unit that helps victims get away from their traffickers and start a life of their own design. They have about 25 trafficking victims living onsite or in apartments. Lives are changed with support and love from this organization.
My firm helps Covenant House of New Orleans kids all year long. Sometimes residents get into legal trouble. Our firm helps them resolve these issues so they can focus on jobs, housing, and their kids. I love being able to use my criminal law and court knowledge to help these residents get back on track.
